A confident birth of a big baby.

There is so much fear surrounding big babies. Sometimes scans are right and sometimes they are wrong, we as human mammals come in a variety of sizes and shapes so why shouldn’t our babies? Josee was confident of her ability to birth her baby and she was right. I do hope that this birth story gives those of you with suspected bigger babies the confidence you need to trust your bodies to do what they were built to do. Don’t forget if you need some peer support then do join our Facebook Group - The Hypnobirthing & Positive Birth Group, where Josee first shared her birth.

Over to Josee…

Can’t believe that I can now say that my baby boy, Mason is here!

After 3 weeks of early labour and staying at barely 1cm, I woke up to surges at 5am on the 22nd. I finally felt confident that these surges were different and called my midwife at 11:30am to be checked. My surges were manageable and about 5mins apart. I was dilated to a 5! I couldn’t believe it because I really didn’t feel like they were that intense. Things began to progress quickly and by 1pm I was progressed to 8cm and my water broke.

I laboured through transition in our birth pool and on the toilet (which I didn’t prefer as it made things so much more intense however it brought baby down quickly). I began feeling the urge to push at around 2:30 and slowly listened to my body. After a while I felt I would have more control on my bed so I laid down for my final pushes. My sweet boy was born at 3:03pm with his cord loosely wrapped twice around his neck, he needed a minute of help with oxygen before his beautiful cries filled the room.

When I thought I was having a large baby I wasn’t wrong, this little guy arrived at a whopping 11lbs of gorgeous kissable rolls. 23” long and 38 circumference head. I feel amazing and recovery has been easier than with my first, also not one tear!

I’m so grateful that I advocated from the beginning for the birth I wanted and that I had the courage to go through with it. It was the most beautiful experience! Hope this gives some hope to the mamas to be, I’m so grateful for the support and encouragement of this group!
